We run a debian 2.6.26-2-amd64 x86_64 GNU/Linux on a server with 128 Gb. Recently it our available memory became rather low. Looking at the /proc/meminfo showed that the Slab was using 88Gb, which is counted in the used memory off course. Is this a problem? I suspect that memory will be freed when necessary, but I don't know if that could have unwanted side effects. Why would Slab need that much memory? Is there a clear cause for that? can we avoid this to happen in the future? This is a web based software application that allows customers and staff to log into it and access tickets and supply updates, etc. The challenge we are having deals with the two different domains that we use and the mod_rewrite rules to make it all work with our SSL certificate that is only bound to one of the domains. I have a host with a database installed on it. In order to access the database, the clients use a DNS Alias (CNAME) - AliasOne - and the database port. DNS Aliases are managed by colleagues in another department. I had to request a more explicit alias - AliasTwo - for the same host. Now: I need to delete AliasOne : how can I check which Alias is used to connect on the host/to the database ? I don't get this information in the database logs. Centos recently updated to 7.3 and there's been problems with sshd sftp group permissions. I have one user that is chrooted to it's home directory, and that user is in group sftponly . Then i have the /var/www directory, which has 775 permissions and owner is apache and owner group is sftponly . I have a bind link pointing from /home/user/files/web --> /var/www , so the user can access /var/www even though being chrooted to it's home directory. I can view files in /var/www with that user, but impossible to edit or add anything. This worked fine before the big Centos 7.3 update, and now it's stopped working. Any ideas? I use my provider's DNS manager, so I don't have a DNS server hosted on the machine. Let's say for a second, that I don't use my host's DNS, and I decide to set up a DNS server on my server. Hypothetical scenario: my server (entire) server goes down - DNS included. Why do I need backup DNS? If the server is down, who cares if the DNS server is down too, considering that even if I had DNS up (it wasn't on the crashed server), it wouldn't be able to forward requests anyway since the server would be down? Is the point of having secondary DNS, to be able to change the IP addresses that your DNS server points to, so if your webserver was down, you could redirect traffic to a backup? I would like to add exchange to our new server 2012 just added. our current setup: 1 server 2012 domain setup domain.local with AD 1 server 2012 (new) would like to add exchange on. hosted emails(name.net), and website from godaddy (website name.net) I would like to setup an exchange server to get away from godaddy emails. but leave the website there for now. I have been basically psyched out by some of the sales consultants from enterprise vendors such as EMC and NetApp. We have a new requirement to store around 30 TB of unstructured data, and around 100-200 GB of structured data (mostly MySQL). I am considering setting up couple of JBODs which are custom built running FreeNAS, OpenFiler or OpenSolaris for the unstructured Data. The total cost with redundancy and backup is coming to less than 10,000 USD for me. For the latter, I am planning to use a standard HP DL-180 G6 Server RAID 1 ( 2 SAS Drives), with an incremental backup to a backup system. The entire cost is working out less 12,000 USD. I am trying to run nginx as reverse proxy for Apache on the same machine and serve different websites from it. My question is - is it possible to add virtual hosts only to nginx and have it pass the url/hostname/path, etc to Apache automatically depending on which host is requested. I have my domain hosted and I received to two name servers to be updated with my domain registrar ns1.hostingcompany.com ns2.hostingcompany.com , I know if the primary name server goes down DNS server automatically point my domain to the secondary name server but my question is what happens my host's whole system goes down? I need to setup a dns server that I can host my domain on, that when requested will choose an IP address for the user from criteria that I set on my server. Ex: user from Canada requests A NAME record lookup on mydomain.com and it will return 10.0.0.20 and a user from the Netherlands performing the same lookup will return 10.0.0.21, ideally I would like to be able to take the requesting IP address (user) and run my own scripts/checks on it even down to accounting for the ASN of the requestee and giving a specific IP address. I am trying to setup a situation where I can FTP to my Linux CentOS 7 server and update the web site files from my Windows 7 system. At this point I can FTP to my user's folder using vsftp (/home/robert) and Apache seems to work for the default web site (/var/www/html). We power cycled one of our SuperMicro machines and it does not boot anymore. It seems it won't even get to the BIOS loading stage and peripherals (VGA monitor, USB cable) are not detected. All indicators on the chassis itself seem fine (namely the power supply, CPU overheating and even network connection). The LEDs for the PSUs are also green. We tried removing the disks and booting from a Centos disk but no luck. In the last weeks, it happened several times to me that my vserver (Debian Lenny) was out of RAM (500M) and therefore wasn't able to run apache anymore. When looking at the processes with top , I saw that there were many open munin-limits and munin-cron processes that consumed most of the memory. My guess would be that sometimes Apache temporarily needs more memory, which prevents munin-cron from running. And if munin-cron isn't able to stop itself, it would fill the memory until nothing is left. I don't know whether this guess is true, but could maybe someone know what the problem is and how to prevent it? If necessary I'll remove munin, but I'd prefer to keep it running. I've just setup a CentOS 5.5 install with Apache and Mapserver. While trying to do the tutorial for mapserver, I've found that Apache returns 403 forbidden when accessing any of the tutorial files, yet for any file I create and upload it serves it normally. When checked with ls -l the permissions are exactly the same, the user and group are exactly the same, and the files are in the same folder - yet I can't access a .txt from the tutorial whereas if I copy the contents into another file I can access it. Apache's error logs simply say I don't have permission to access the file, so isn't telling me anything more useful, and my searches have all told to ensure the permissions are set correctly (they look the same). It's a fresh install with my web docs residing in /var/www and find /var/www/ -name .htaccess doesn't return anything so I'm confident there aren't any .htaccess files preventing my from accessing anything. nginx can serve the file...

I am trying to configure Tomcat to serve the same content to two different domains with different SSL certificates but the same IP address. I have created two connectors however even though the domain is different I am getting the following error on startup: Caused by: java.net.BindException: Address already in use Is it even possible to allow tomcat to serve two domains, with different SSL certificates on the same IP address? So I have a website that runs through wamp however if you type a path in the address bar, you get an index of the directory, which I don't want I have already tried to add a .htaccess file in the directory to stop it indexing (saying IgnoreIndex * ) and went into the apache httpd.conf file and changing Include conf/extra/httpd-autoindex.conf to: # Include conf/extra/httpd-autoindex.conf however none have worked... I have tried restarting my server, restarting services, but nothing... Help?

I have several scripts in UNC paths (from Windows batch files to PHP scripts). No matter how I run them (double click on explorer, my editor's run command menu or Windows command prompt) they take really long to start running (like 14 seconds). Once they get started they run normally. This doesn't happen if I run them from mapped drives. I'm using Windows XP Professional SP3 inside an Active Directory domain and files are hosted in a Windows Server box (not sure about the version, it's an HP dedicated file server with bundled OS). Why does it happen? Is there a way to speed up things while using UNC paths?

I want to secure a file upload directory on my server as described beautifully here, but I have one problem before I can follow these instructions. I don't know what user Apache is running as. I've found a suggestion that you can look in httpd.conf and there will be a "User" line, but there is no such line in my httpd.conf file, so I guess Apache is running as the default user. I can't find out what that is, though. So, my question is (are): how do I find out what the default user is do I need to change the default user if the answer is yes and I change the default user by editing httpd.conf, is it likely to screw anything up? I have set up a CentOS 6.2 VirtualBox along with FTP and Apache root of /var/www/html/. By default, the user ftp account is set to /home/user_name/. However, I'm guessing it's common practice to give that user access to the /var/www/html/. I was able to mount and bind the directory to the user directory as such: mkdir /home/ftp_user/html/ mount --bind /var/www/html/ /home/ftp_user/html/ But as soon as I shut down my VirtualBox, this bind disappears. When I visit www.mysite.com all is well. When I visit mysite.com (without the www) I get redirected to http://www.mysite.com/home/admin/domains/mysite.com/public_html which gives a 404 error. /home/admin/domains/mysite.com/public_html is my DocumentRoot I believe this problem occurs without rewriting happening... but I could be wrong. I think it my be something with my Apache config. Hopefully someone will spot a common mistake. I have a Godaddy domain that points to aws load balancer with a SSL cert. Now I want to add another domain B to point to the same load balancer. Can I use the same SSL cert or is it associated with the domain name ? Do I have to buy a UCC ssl cert ? What is it anyway ? How should I approach this ? Thanks Answer SSL certificates are tied to a particular domain, so no to #1. 2 works nicely as an option. A UCC/SAN certificate is just an SSL certificate with multiple valid domain names in it (called Subject Alternative Names). UCC/SAN is what I use for our Amazon AWS load balancer and it works nicely. The only downside of such a certificate is that it shows the other domain names it's used for. If you have paranoid/picky clients this may be problematic.

My company currently has stress tests that are run manually through JMeter. We also use TeamCity for automation of JUnit testing. It's become clear that we need to automate our stress testing as well to provide more generalized testing of our entire web application. I have been looking for a solution where I could use JMeter within TeamCity but I have no yet found anything. Has anyone done this successfully? I have a problem with a CMS website, that normally generates readable urls. Sometimes it happens that navigation links are shown as www.domain.com/22 , which results in an error, instead of www.domain.com/contact . I have not found a solution for this yet, but the page is working if the url is www.domain.com/index.php?id=22 . I have a HP ProLiant DL380 G5, I have two logical drives configured with RAID. I have one logical drive RAID 1+0 with two 72 gb 10k sas 1 port spare no 376597-001. I had one hard disk fail and ordered a replacement. The configuration utility showed error and would not rebuild the RAID. I presumed a hard disk fault and ordered a replacement again. In the mean time I put the original failed disk back in the server and this started rebuilding. Currently shows ok status however in the log I can see hardware errors. The new disk has come and I again have the same problem of not accepting the hard disk. I have updated the P400 controller with the latest firmware 7.24 , but still no luck. The only difference I can see is the original drive has firmware 0103 (same as the RAID drive) and the new one has HPD2. Any advice would be appreciated.
